Allergen Prevention Checklist Now Available

Allergens have been the leading cause of food recalls, and according to the USDA, allergens account for approximately “30,000 Emergency room visits, 2000 hospitalizations, and 150 deaths annually” 1.

The FDA states that there are 9 Major Food Allergens in the United States – Milk, Eggs, Fish, Crustacean Shellfish, Tree Nuts, Peanuts, Wheat, Soybean and Sesame.2

Companies that have had to issue recalls due to allergens are solid, reputable organizations with layers of departments that protect against these types of failures.  Additionally, they are scoring well with their third-party auditing bodies.  So why do we have so many product holds and recalls?

The process can be very complex, but it can be managed effectively and efficiently when you have the correct strategy.
